Sidgwick, Henry
(31 may. 1838, Skipton, Yorkshire, Inglaterra–29 ago. 1900, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire).

Filósofo británico. Educado en Cambridge, donde permaneció como catedrático asociado (desde 1859) y profesor (desde 1883). Su libro Los métodos de la ética (1874) es considerado por algunos el más importante tratado de ética escrito en inglés del s. XIX. Sobre la base del utilitarismo de John Stuart Mill y el imperativo categórico de Immanuel Kant, propuso un sistema de "hedonismo universalista que eliminaría el manifiesto conflicto existente entre el placer propio y el placer de los demás. Entre sus otros escritos figuran los Principios de economía política (1883) y Elementos de política (1891). También fue cofundador de la Sociedad para la Investigación Psicológica (1882) y contribuyó a fundar el primer college de mujeres de Cambridge.
